15 歲申請張 alpha card 來碌下
恒生推出了一張名為 alpha card 的特別版 master card, 供 15 - 18 歲小弟弟及小妹妹申請來碌。credit 一定不會高, 但這 master card 是直接連到戶主的 bank account, 如果碌爆了就會直接從 bank account 扣現數, 這十分危險! 以我認識的 15 - 18 歲小弟弟及小妹妹, 基乎找不到一個是會儲錢的, 都是有錢到手就要清了全部似的, 給他們信用卡? 無錯, 買戲飛、上網 bid 東西是方便了, 不過相信到頭來又是要父母/男朋友跟手尾。

雖然覺得不應該低估現在的孩子們，但還是覺得不該給未成年的人信用卡。自制能力及儲錢能力通常是較弱的吧。

This kind of card is called debit card, because the charge limit will never exceed the bank account balance or a preset limit whichever lower. The bank never extends a “credit” to the debit card owner because each of the purchase must be backed up by a deposit in the associated bank account. You basically pre-pay for your purchase. There is no risk to the bank.
“Credit” means the bank lends you money to pay for your purchase and you don’t have to pay off the balance as long as you pay the interest on the loan. The bank takes a risk to lend you money up to a certain limit assuming you would pay up without requiring a lien or collateral. For example, if you don’t pay a car loan, the bank can repossess your car, but if you don’t pay your credit card loan, the bank can only write it off as a loss.
To the merchants, a debit card works the same as any other Mastercard. The difference is in how money is handled between the bank and the account holder.
The “limit” of the debit card is not necessarily the same as your bank account balance. You can have $1 million in the account, but set up the card’s monthly spending limit to be $1000. That is a good way to set up a fixed monthly allowance for your kids. Debit card offers credit card convenience to the user, but no risk to the bank. Mastercard and Visa cards are honored by merchants around the world, i.e. you can use yours when travelling, that is an advantage that Octopus card don’t have.

The difference is that Mastercard is recognized around the world, i.e. you can use the card when travelling overseas.
